PTA (Parent-Teacher Association)

What is the PTA?

Our PTA is a group of friendly and enthusiastic parents, caregivers and staff who work together to support the Board of Trustees and the school.

What does the PTA do?

The PTA has two main functions – to organise social events for our school community and to fundraise. These extra funds are a valuable and necessary addition to the government funding the school receives. This money goes toward extra resources for our children. Over the years the PTA has organised food festivals, Sausage sizzles, discos, Art exhibitions, raffles, Pie days, Spellathons, and other events.

Recently, money raised by the PTA has gone towards shade sails, basketball courts, and a covered turf area. These assets are a valuable addition to our learning environment and would not be possible without fundraising. Events such as annual festivals are a great opportunity for the community to come together.

Why join the PTA?

The PTA is a great way to meet other parents and staff and to contribute to the school community. In order for the PTA to continue to function, we need parents and caregivers to get involved!

How much of my time will it take?

Can be as little or as much time as you can commit. We are always looking for help both for pre event planning and for help on the day – e.g., event set up and pack down, manning stalls or barbecues. The PTA also meets once a term in the school staffroom to discuss and plan events and fundraisers.

How to get involved?

We advertise the dates in the school newsletter and on the school calendar.  We also have a WhatsApp group where we connect before events. You can either opt to join the PTA or become a friend of the PTA where you offer to help occasionally with large events.

Please contact office@sunnybrae.school.nz if you would like to join or for more information, we would love to meet you! You can also visit our Sunnybrae Normal School facebook page.

I joined as a new mum to Sunnybrae school as a way to meet other parents and make some connections. I love feeling like we’re achieving something extra for the benefit of our children and school community.” Justine

I joined the PTA to meet other parents, learn a bit about how the school works and help creating funds to enable the school to buy these extra bits that make the school more fun for our kids. I thoroughly enjoy watching the excited faces at the events we organise, it makes me happy to help providing the opportunities for our kids and their parents to mingle and have a good time. Sabina

The reason I joined the PTA as it’s a great way to stay informed about what’s happening and to get involved in the community. Plus, there are lots of opportunities to volunteer and make a difference at the school while my kids are studying there.Mei Ling

PTA allows me to know more about NZ schooling information so I could be part of my children’s learning. It is also an opportunity to make friends with other parents of the same community so we could share inspiration for children’s  future development. ” Dora
