3. Planning for 2021

We are currently planning for next year. If your child is in Year 1 – 5 and they will not be returning to Sunnybrae in 2021, please email our Deputy Principal, Karen Rodger at krodger@sunnybrae.school.nz.

If you have a child turning 5 next year, please make sure you enrol them at the office as soon as possible. Please also encourage any new families, ‘Out of Zone’ and ‘In Zone’ to enrol their children as soon as they can as this helps with future planning. For enrolment forms and further information about ‘Out of Zone’ opportunities in 2021, please email office@sunnybrae.school.nz or call into our office between 8:30 am and 3:30 pm weekdays.

4. School Photos

Class and individual photos will take place on Monday 14 September. Children should all be wearing their correct school uniform. If you would like photos of siblings to be taken together, you will need to complete a permission form (available from the office) before 9:00 am on Monday morning. For more information please refer to the leaflet sent home earlier this week.

5. PTA Find-out-a-thon Fundraiser

We are very proud of our children who took part in the Find-out-a-thon testing on Monday. If you have not already done so, we would appreciate your support in helping your child collect their sponsorship money and passing on our thanks to all those who sponsored or contributed to our fundraiser. Please pay this money to the office by Friday 18th September. Alternatively, payments can be made into our school bank account via online banking – Sunnybrae Normal School, ASB Northcote, 12 3053 0370789 00. Please include your child’s first name, Room Number and ‘athon’ in the reference.

The draw for students who get over 10 sponsors or raise at least $50.00 and bring in their sponsorship money by Friday 18th September will take place at school on Monday 21 September. Prizes for the students in each syndicate who have been the most successful at raising sponsorship will also be given on Monday 21 September.

Monday 12 October – Teacher Only Day – School Closed

Tuesday 13 October – Teacher Only Day – School Closed

The YMCA will be running their programme in the hall on Monday 12 October and Tuesday 13 October to support families needing childcare. Options and costs for each day will be sent out to families next week.

Students will begin Term 4 on Wednesday 14 October.

10. This week our focus has continued to be on the state of flow. When we are immersed in an activity and lose track of time, this is called ‘flow’ or being ‘in the zone’. Flow is highly correlated with happiness because it lifts us from our emotions and helps us stay present (be mindful). People who experience this state regularly often develop other positive traits such as increased concentration, self-esteem and performance. In order for a flow state to occur, the activity should be seen as voluntary, enjoyable and absorbing but not too challenging. Children can turn to these activities when big emotions strike.

In the classroom, we have been using mandala colouring, because it is an excellent strategy for relaxing and calming our bodies and minds – even for adults! When we are fully immersed in an activity and lose track of time (like we do when colouring in), we experience flow.

Sparklers at Home has the same Mandala Colouring options that we’ve been using in the classroom, adapted for home use. It would be great if you could encourage this with your child – have colouring in available and do it with them too. They will love this time with you.

11. PB4L – Cooperation

This week our PB4L focus has been on showing cooperation everywhere

Our lessons have focussed on:

  • Playing Safely
  • Keeping our Hands and Feet to Ourselves

12. Touch Rugby – Term 4

If your child is interested in playing Touch Rugby for Sunnybrae in Term 4, please download the form from this link. Alternatively, your child can collect a form from Mrs Hutton next week. If you require any further information, please contact Carolyn Hutton – chutton@sunnybrae.school.nz.
