4. Crossing Duty on Sunnybrae Road

We would like to thank all of the parents who currently help us before or after school with the crossing on Sunnybrae Road. We are looking for a volunteer to help us on Thursday morning as Tony Kong who has kindly done this, is now unable to do so. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Tony for supporting the school in this way and if you would like to help by doing the crossing duty, please let Helen Rennie-Younger know at hrennie-younger@sunnybrae.school.nz or call 09 443 5058.

5. Community Engagement

Cultural Focus Groups

A big thank you to those who came to support the cultural group meetings that were held this week. It is wonderful to have your support and to learn so much about your cultures. Thank you for contributing your ideas for our front entrance panels.

The next cultural group meetings will be for our Middle Eastern and German cultural groups. They will be held on Thursday 25 August at 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm in the school staffroom. We are looking forward to meeting with you.

6. Cook Islands Language Week

The Pasifika cultural group celebrated Cook Islands Language Week by making authentic Cook Island headbands made from flax and kawakawa leaves from the school bush.

7. New Basketball Court

Grand Opening Celebration

What a fantastic afternoon we all had at Sunnybrae Normal School last Friday celebrating the opening of our new basketball court. Many celebrities turned up including our local MP and representatives from the NZ Women’s, Tall Blacks and Breakers.

There were speeches, student games, competitions and even some teachers and SNS Board members played against the ‘stars’. The ceremony ended with autographs being gathered from the guests before many smiling students returned to their classes.

Massive thanks must go to CEO, John Hunt of Harbour Basketball for his hard work in sourcing and contributing half of the funding, including a large donation from the Lion Foundation, and to Court Kings for building our awesome court.

A huge thank you to our wonderful hard-working Parent Teacher Association for fundraising for the courts. And, of course, thank you to all the parents and caregivers who supported this fundraising event.

Thanks also to the NZ Men and Women players who ran the event and joined in the fun, and our own teachers and parents who supported this exciting celebration. Our basketball court will be an absolute asset to our school and community. We are very thankful and feel so lucky to have this wonderful resource.

8.  Year 4 to 6 Cross Country Training

9. Sport Shirts

If you currently have a Sunnybrae Sports shirt at home and are not in a current team, please return this to school Monday.
