Welcome to Sunnybrae
This week we would like to welcome the following new student and their family to our school community: Isabella in Room 2

The PB4L focus for Term 4 Week 1 will be on using excellence everywhere. Our lessons will focus on Entering and exiting quietly, making a good choice about where we sit and sitting quietly.

Butterfly House
Thank you to Udari Malavitantrige (Vonal, Nethalee and Yuven’s mother) who has kindly been working on making our butterfly house beautiful again. We look forward to the butterflies returning this summer to enjoy this space.

Take some time for yourself and your family away from devices.
Make any time you have off count. The pull towards a device each day is very real, even just to check emails, but do take some time to have a break from it and do something different. Do what works for you, maybe allocate an hour at the start of the day, have a device-free day, every second day or whatever works for you.

Get out in Nature
It sounds simple and it is! We are so fortunate to have so many local parks, small bush areas and close beaches on the North Shore. Feeling a connection with nature is good for the mind and body.

  • Take a walk along the beach, with your shoes off
  • Walk along the edge of the water with bare feet, a little chilly, but very invigorating
  • Walk on the grass with bare feet
  • Put your raincoats on and go for a walk in the rain

Listen to music and if all else fails….dance! It is a great stress relief and perhaps a good laugh for everyone in your household!

Junior Cross Country
Despite rain the Year 1-3 students were enthusiastic about running in the Junior Cross Country last Thursday.
After weeks of training the students were ready to show all the progress they had made and cheer on their peers. In fact I think they had even more fun because of the rain! Thank you to the Year 6 students who helped encourage and guide the students around the course and the parents who came out in their array of coloured umbrellas to cheer on the students.

Year 4-6 Cluster Athletics Day

Confirming that our cluster athletics day has been moved to:
Wednesday 30th November.
All students participating in this event will need to meet outside Room 17 at 8.30am. A reminder notice/checklist, will be sent out on Tuesday of next week.

Seesaw Update
Please ensure that you have the most up to date version of Seesaw (when using the app) so that you can receive teacher notices, messages and your child’s report at the end of the year. Seesaw is now only one app instead of two separate ones.

Homestay Families Needed for TNIS Students
We have two Korean learners arriving to study at TNIS for Term 1, 2023 on 10 January next year. Homestay compensation is $320/w per student.
Police vetting of anyone over 18 in the home will be required. A homestay learner is a great chance to share different cultures and widen your child’s worldview. Any families interesting in hosting the visitors, please contact Sophia Yang on
Enrolments at Sunnybrae Normal School
If you live ‘in zone’ and have a child turning 5 this year, please make sure you enrol your child/children as soon as possible. Please also encourage any new ‘in zone’ families to enrol their children as this helps us with future planning. Please visit our website and complete the enrolment form.
If you are moving away from Sunnybrae, please contact the office as soon as possible.

As part of our ongoing monitoring of our Emergency Procedures we had an indoor lockdown drill on the morning of Monday 21 November.
Soon after the lockdown announcement was made members of our Senior Leadership Team walked around the school checking the external doors were locked and that students and staff we secure and silent. These drills also test our indoor and outdoor speakers ensuring emergency announcements can be heard. Following the drills and the ‘all clear’ announcement is made teachers complete a debrief document with their class.

With all your support, the Yummy Sticker promotion has raised a whopping $887 to go towards new sports equipment for the school. Thank you for eating all those apples everyone!

We are asking that all parents/caregivers be considerate of our many neighbours by ensuring that you leave their driveways clear when you are dropping off or picking up your child/children. For security, please lock your vehicle at these times.

Packing Boxes Needed
Our library is getting a much needed refresh over the school holidays so we desperately need cardboard boxes to pack away the hundreds of books we have. Please drop off any sturdy cardboard boxes, similiar in size to Hello Fresh/My Food Bag, to the office.

Kind regards
Lorene Hurd,

Please note that all children are to be collected from school by 3.15pm. If you are unable to collect before this time, you my be interested in booking your child into the YMCA after school club held in the hall.
