PTA UPDATE:
Family Fun Fest

What a fun night we had for our first Sunnybrae Family Fun Fest since 2020.
Thank you to all who came and supported this event. We saw many happy faces and that is always our main aim. All the carnival games were well received but the most popular by far was the chocolate coin toss game! That was so much fun to watch. Overall we’ve made just over $7,000 with this event which is a great start to our year. This couldn’t be achieved without your support, the generosity of our sponsors and people who donate towards this event. And of course a big thank you to our PTA team who are a small but mighty group who have managed to create this wonderful event for everyone to enjoy. Looking forward to a lot more fun to come this year. Contact the office if you would like to join our PTA.

Winners from the night are:
Teddy Raffle #1 – Cherry Higginson, Teddy Raffle #2Yuko Tanaka, Sunnybee PlushieMegha Sai Adusumalli from Room 14, Sand Dig Lego – Reachney Hong from Room 17.

Big thanks to Hine Clarke and Michael Howell for the Lego prizes, Mon Subritzky for making the Sunnybee Plushie that was raffled and Chris McPherson for the two Easter Teddy Raffles. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Thank you to Caroline Beck who captured a rainbow over our new Covered Turf during Family FunFest 2023. The photograph is symbolic of a great celebration. Thank you to everyone who attended. If you have any photographs you would like to share, please email to office@sunnybrae.school.nz.

PTA Meeting
The Sunnybrae Normal School Parent Teacher Association (PTA) are currently seeking parents willing to help at future school fundraising events.
This is an opportunity to meet parents already involved with fundraising for the school, and how you can volunteer to help the Sunnybrae community and its students.

> Come and find out how your children already benefit from the PTA.
> No commitment to attend all meetings.
> Be a friend of the PTA and help only when you are free.
> Provide us with feedback.
> Share new ideas for fundraising.

Next meeting Wednesday 22 March at 7:00 pm in the Staffroom.

SPORTS RECAP:
Year 5 & 6 Soccer Tournament
On Thursday 23 February two teams worth of eager Year 5 & 6’s walked to McFetridge Park for an action packed morning of soccer.  We had a blast and it was so awesome to see our school RICE values being displayed throughout the morning and great sportsmanship.
A huge thank you to our parent helpers. As we know, these events cannot go ahead without your help and support. An extra shout out goes to Ian Kinsey (Kate’s Dad) for stepping in and helping out the Northern Rovers by umpiring a lot of our games.  Thank you so much.
The Northern Rovers donated a bag of goodies to the school for attending. We are so grateful for the new soccer balls for our school. If you are thinking about joining a soccer club for the season, for both girls and boys, have a look at their website: www.northernroversfc.org.nz

Swimming
Today your child will come home with a swimming certificate. This certificate celebrates the skills your child has acquired over the swimming sessions held earlier this term. Thank you to the Sunnybrae Board of Trustees for funding these swimming lessons for all of our students. Learning to swim is a very important skill for our students.

UP COMING SPORTS:
Year 3-6 Tryathlon
Thursday 23 March 2023 – 1.15 – 3.00pm
We are pleased to be able to hold our annual Tryathlon on Thursday 23 March.
This is a fun activity where everyone participates, either as an individual in the championship race or in a team of 2 or 3 friends where one person swims, one person cycles and the other person runs.
Students are to bring swimming togs, a named bike + helmet and running shoes. All parents, caregivers and extended family members are welcome to come and watch. Hope to see you there.

Enrolments
Enrolments at Sunnybrae Normal School
If you live ‘in zone’ and have a child turning 5 this year, please make sure you enrol your child/children as soon as possible. Please also encourage any new ‘in zone’ families to enrol their children as this helps us with future planning. Please visit our website www.sunnybrae.school.nz and complete the enrolment form.
If you are moving away from Sunnybrae, please contact the office as soon as possible.

SAFETY AROUND SCHOOL:
Parking
We are asking that all parents/caregivers be considerate of our many neighbours by ensuring that you leave their driveways clear when you are dropping off or picking up your child/children. For security, please lock your vehicle at these times.

There was a lot of shoes and clothing left behind from the Family Fun Fest last Friday. If you are missing any items please call into the Office and ask for the key to the Lost Property Room.

Kind regards
Lorene Hurd,
Principal
