The Year 1’s are MITEY friends.

This term, the Year 1’s have been focusing on Friendships using the mental health programme called Mitey.
We have been on a special journey to understand the beauty of friendships. Through stories, conversations and activities, we’ve been learning about how friends support and care for each other, how to listen and share, and how to resolve differences kindly. We have discussed the characteristics that make a good friend, how to treat a friend and how friends make us feel.
It was important to learn about each other. We completed a Venn diagram of a classmate, and then some great conversations took place. We discussed our similarities and differences and could see through a visual representation that even though everyone is different, we can still find common ground.

We used the Te Kete Aroha (The friendship Basket) to nominate someone who has shown the characteristics of a good friend, and these were shared to acknowledge that person’s mana.

These are some of the students lovely writing about what makes a good friend:
A good friend is kind. A good friend is caring. A good friend is helpful. They help me when I am stuck. A good friend makes me laugh. Sophie, Room 3

A good friend is helpful. When I fall down they help me. A good friend cares for me. A good friend is kind because they share with me. A good friend makes me happy because they play with me. Fernanda, Room 3

I can be a good friend because I share and I am kind. I help when somebody is hurt. I have fun with my friends. Puawai, Room 4

A good friend is helpful and friendly. I am a good friend because I am nice and like to have fun with my friends. Good friends laugh together and are proud of each other when they get a certificate. A good friend shares. Carter, Room 4

A good friend is helpful and nice. A good friend makes you laugh and plays with you. Maia, Room 5

A good friend is helpful and nice. Maia and Mischa are my friends. We laugh and play together. Naavya, Room 5

MĀORI LANGUAGE WEEK:

On Thursday our Māori students gathered for a photo together – celebrating how proud they are to be Māori.
