1. Welcome to Sunnybrae

2. Teacher Only Day – Friday 3 June 2022

School Closed

School will be closed on Friday 3 June. All teachers will attend the Pupuke Community of Learning COLAB professional development day. 

If you require child care, YMCA will be running a programme at Sunnybrae on Friday 3 June. Further details will be sent out next week. 

3. Positive Behaviour for Learning

Our Week 2 lessons will focus on using cooperation everywhere.

Our lessons will focus on:

  • Playing safely
  • Keeping hands and feet to ourselves

4. Jesters Pie Day – Wednesday 11 May

You can order a pie for your child’s lunch on Wednesday 11 May. All orders and payments have to be made through MyKindo.

Orders close Tuesday 10 May at 11:00 am.

Pies are $5.80 each. $1.50 from every pie purchased is given back to the PTA (Parent-Teacher Association) as fundraising for Sunnybrae Normal School. Please see the attached PDF for further information. Thank you for supporting our fundraising initiatives led by our hard working Parent Teacher Association.

5. Updating Parent/Caregiver Permissions

As part of the transition to our new Student Management System, we are currently updating ‘Parent/Caregiver Permissions’ for each student enrolled at Sunnybrae Normal School. A Google form was emailed to all of our ‘Primary Caregivers’ on Tuesday. If you have not yet completed this form for each of your children, we would appreciate it if you could do so as soon as possible.

6. ESOL Graduates

Congratulations to Lamar Al-Naime (R19) and Lion Yu (R20) who graduated from our ESOL programme at the end of Term 1. Well done to these two hardworking Year 6 students.

7. Pink Shirt Day – Friday 20 May

On Friday 20 May, Sunnybrae will be supporting Pink Shirt Day. Pink Shirt Day is run by the Mental Health Foundation and is about reducing bullying by celebrating diveristy in all its forms and supporting schools, kura, workplace, and communities to be safe, supportive, welcoming and inclusive of all.

Students can wear a pink shirt to school on Friday 20 May and bring a gold coin donation that will be given to Mental Health Awareness.

8. Out of Zone Ballot

Out of Zone Ballot for Entry in 2022

Enrolment at Sunnybrae Normal School is governed by an enrolment scheme, details of which are available from the school office. Students who live within the home zone are entitled to enrol at the school.

For students who live out of zone, the next opportunity to apply is before 3 June 2022, this will be for students starting between 25 July and 30 September 2022 in Year 1, Year 2, Year 3 and Year 6 for out of zone students.

There will be an out of zone ballot held on Tuesday 7 June for students not living in the school’s home zone. If the number of out of zone applications exceeds the number of places available, students will be selected by ballot. Parents will be informed of the outcome of the ballot within three school days of the ballot being held.

9. Office Administration

We are looking for:

Essentially, someone who is out of the box, a team member with a positive attitude that exudes personal warmth; a great sense of humour and the ability to show initiative and work autonomously.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in office work, preferably within the education sector.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective organisational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • High level of computer literacy (Google Drive, Word, Excel, +++).
  • Ability to multitask and thrive in an invigorating school environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • First Aid certificate, or willingness to get First Aid training.

This position is 8:00 am to 3:30 pm daily for term time only (40 weeks). Ideally, this would be Monday to Friday but we can be flexible. Salary will be determined based on previous experience. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Interact with students, families, staff and the wider community.
  • Reception: manage day-to-day reception duties.
  • Support the Senior Leadership Team and the Office Manager via completion of administrative tasks associated with operating an efficient school office.

The successful applicant must be eligible to work in New Zealand and undergo Police Vetting processes under the Vulnerable Children’s Act.

Students at Sunnybrae were busy making poppies at the end of Term 1 for ANZAC Day.  These were displayed outside the Police Station in Browns Bay.
