SPOTLIGHT ON YEAR 1 & 2:
Learning and Growing
The tamariki in the Year 1 and 2 Team are all enjoying participating in an inquiry unit on Identity and Wellbeing.

Big Idea: Learning and growing together helps us to be the best we can be
Key Elements:

  • We are part of a class, family, school and community
  • Friendships and teamwork
  • I can teach and learn from other people
  • Learner Qualities

Concepts: Wellbeing, Communication, Identity, Belonging, Diversity. Culture, Relationships, Roles and Responsibilities, Values
Summary: This unit of inquiry aims to help students understand and explore their own personal identity, including their values, beliefs, and qualities that make them unique. It also focuses on promoting wellbeing by teaching students the importance of self-care, healthy relationships, and managing their emotions. Throughout the unit, students engage in activities and discussions that encourage self-reflection and provide opportunities for them to express themselves creatively. The goal of the unit is to help students develop a positive self-image and a strong sense of self, which will support them in their academic and personal growth.
Curriculum Areas: Social Studies, Language and Literacy, The Arts, Health and Physical Education

Here are some photos of the amazing learning that we have been doing in our classrooms.

It’s all about bringing family together for some fun, food, and entertainment. On offer are BBQ sausages in bread, assorted BBQ meats served in buns (kindly donated by Silver Fern Farms) with your sauce of choice, Chinese dumplings, egg fried rice, Taiwanese pork mince with steamed rice, sushi, onigiri and green tea, dutch fries, Harcourts coffee and ice cream cones, home-baked cakes and desserts plus ice blocks. Extended family, friends, neighbours and whānau are very welcome. Bring your picnic blankets and join us for the evening.  The event starts at 4:30 pm and should end by 7:00 pm. We are set up on the back School Field, under the Covered Turf and inside the School Hall.

SPORTS UPDATE:
Athletics Opportunity
Thank you to Angela Temata from Harcourts Cooper & Co who provided tickets to the Sir Graeme Douglas International Athletics meet held on Sunday 10th March. These lucky Sunnybrae students had the opportunity to meet Dame Valerie Adams and sprinter Zoe Hobbs.

Year 3-6 Tryathlon
We are pleased to be able to hold our Annual Year 3 to 6 Tryathlon on Wednesday 20 March, 1:15 pm – 3:00 pm.
This is a fun activity where everyone is encouraged to participate, either as an individual in the championship race or in a team of 2 or 3 friends where one person swims, one person cycles and the other person runs.
Students are to bring swimming togs, a named bike and helmet and running shoes. Bikes are to be brought to school in the morning and arranged in the cordoned-off area on the school field. Please check the tyre pressure and all parts are in working order before bringing them to school. All parents, caregivers, whānau, neighbours and extended family members are welcome to come and watch on the school field. Hope to see you there.
